Already Dhaka Community Hospital has started relief
activities at Bera and Sujanogar Upazilla in Pabna districts
with its limited resource.
Dhaka Community Hospital used
DER
format for rapid assessment in the affected areas in
collaboration with DCH local office, union and upazila
disaster management committee and the affected local
community.
According to DER initial reports’7th August’07,
the current floods have affected 33 villages and 6 unions
and total 5190 families of Sujanagor Upazilla and 114
villages and 8 unions and total 2638 families of Bera
Upazila in Pabna District. The scarcity of safe drinking
water poses a serious threat of outbreaks in diarrhea and
other waterborne diseases. Other critical problems include
poor sanitary conditions, scarcity of baby food and
essential drugs and medical supplies. The protection of
children and women from violence and abuse in temporary
shelters, the provision of recreational activities and
hygiene education and the need to ensure an equal access of
men, women and children to emergency assistance require
urgent interventions. At present, people are crying for
food, safe drinking water, cloth and medical support.
In
this situation DCH wanted to extend relief activities for
the most vulnerable groups in affected areas through medical
emergency support and emergency food, cloth and pure
water. |
